The International Code Council (ICC) is currently assembling a dedicated team of professionals to establish a groundbreaking Off-Site Construction Tiny Houses Standard Consensus Committee (IS-OSMTH). This committee will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of tiny house standards, bringing together manufacturers, builders, code officials, design professionals, government regulators, and other industry stakeholders.

Earlier this year, the ICC extended an invitation to the Tiny Home Industry Association (THIA) to collaborate on a comprehensive standard that encompasses all aspects of tiny house design, construction, inspection, certification, and regulatory compliance. This new standard will even cover Movable Tiny Homes (MTHs), commonly known as Tiny Houses on Wheels (THOWs).
THIA has enthusiastically embraced this partnership and is actively participating in the creation of this groundbreaking standard. The committee’s composition will consist of 12 to 15 distinguished individuals, each bringing a wealth of expertise and diverse perspectives. The resulting standard, ICC/THIA 1215-202x, “Design, Construction, Inspection and Regulation of Tiny Houses for Permanent Occupancy,” will be the culmination of the IS-OSMTH committee’s efforts.
