Dan Fitzpatrick: THIA President Elect:Panelist On Tiny Houses
Written By Janet Thome
Dan has returned from the BC Affordable Housing Conference in Vancouver on Nov. 17th to the 19th and he gives us an update. ” I just returned from Vancouver, BC where I was a panelist on tiny houses for their annual BC Affordable Housing Conference”
”Our presentation was on the barriers in provincial and local building and zoning codes to tiny houses and more particularly, movable tiny houses. My role was to talk about strides state and local governments have made in accommodating tiny house living in the US.”
”This involved particular focus on Appendix Q and local ordinances like passed in Fresno and pending in Los Angeles.” ” It was heartening to see that our USA efforts have paid off, in that Canada is where we were three (3) years ago.”
” The presentation was well received and hopefully will assist in them in updating their building codes to be tiny friendly. ”
”This conference is Canada’s largest affordable housing conference, bringing together nonprofits, housing suppliers and providers, developers, builders, designers, planners, and local/provincial government officials.”
” I met a number of tiny home builders — several have now joined THIA and/or ATHA. ”
