Want to add a mother-in-law suite? It may soon be legal in Travelers Rest Sept 10th, 2019

f you want to build a smaller housing unit in your backyard for that college student who’s returning home or an aging parent, you aren’t allowed to do that in Travelers Rest.

But, that could change.

The Travelers Rest Planning Commission is recommending that the City Council adopt a zoning code amendment that would allow such secondary houses, units that some call granny flats and in-law suites.

House of Hope plans to build a tiny home community for homeless families Sept. 10th, 2019

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – The House of Hope of the Pee Dee plans to build a tiny home community for homeless women, men and their children.

The campus called Opportunity Village will be located on a lot of land next to their office on West Darlington Street.

There will be 24 tiny homes, each with a bedroom and bathroom along with a communal kitchen and laundry room.

Greer ministry hopes to find location for homeless shelter tiny home expansion Sept. 10th, 2019

Those overseeing the tiny homes project says this area on the Daily Bread property would be the best fit.

“Our first hope is to get them here but should that not be allowed then maybe we would take a look at the next step which would be another piece of property,” Patat said.

Each tiny home would have a bed, kitchenette and bathroom.

Greenwood County planning for ‘tiny home’ trend April 4th, 2018

Recognizing the arrival of a national trend in their own backyard, Greenwood planners are hoping to make it easier for so-called “tiny homes” to find their place in the county’s housing stock.

On Tuesday, County Council was introduced to its sixth ordinance of 2018, a measure that would allow the construction of up to eight small homes on two-acre minimum parcels in agricultural zones.

Sousa, a Conway native, started building the houses as a freshman in high school after being inspired by a video he saw on YouTube. Now, he’s sold two homes and is working to sell his third and most expensive.

Now, his third home is 350 square feet and is built on a 36-foot trailer, making it the biggest ones he’s built. Outside the house is donned with rough sawn lumber, cut from trees in Aynor. Inside, the house has two lofts, a kitchen, bathroom and living space.
